Lenny Lansing is the newest member of the junior class at the mind-bogglingly prestigious Akron Heights High School (“Where Everyone Overachieves”). Lenny has high hopes for AHH, but he soon finds himself staggering under the workload—especially in his totally impossible, totally mandatory afterschool class on Standardized Testing.  With the help of misanthropic computer genius Gregor Adams, Lenny discovers a way to skip Standardized Test Prep—and, in the process, he forges new friendships and inspires a movement of “average achieving” at AHH. But with the end of junior year, the SAT, and college applications looming, Lenny and the Average Achievers have to face some tough questions about who they are and what matters most. Written by composer Benji Goldsmith and playwright Jonathan Karpinos, The Average Achievers satirizes the culture of overwork which pervades many American high schools—and celebrates the authentic energy and passion that that culture inhibits.
